East Texas Motorcycle Enthusiasts, or ETME, is a nonprofit, loosely organized conglomeration of regular folks from all walks of life with big hearts, a penchant for fun and a fondness of motorcycles. You don't have to ride a certain bike or even own one to be a part of ETME. All you need is to like bikes and the fun and freedom they represent.

ETME has grown tremendously since it's early years in the late 80's. In the East Texas region ETME is currently the largest single contributor to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a nonprofit service group that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. ETME donated more than $20,000 to Make-A-Wish in 2001, making it the best year ever. How can you feel guilty about partying when you're helping out such a great cause?

I guess you could say ETME party's all year long, but the big events start in April with the Cajun Cook-Off, rock on into June with the Blues Fest and wind up in September with the party to top all parties, Hawg Wild. The group also assists in producing several small benefits a year whenever a friend falls on hard times.

Starting in 2002, all ETME events are held at ETME Acres, about 14 miles East of Nacogdoches on highway 21. The group has 33 beautiful acres with running water, showers, toilets and plenty of space for camping and parking. You'll also find the 'Slop Shop', where good barbeque is known to be had, and the 'Hog Head Shop', where many a cool T-Shirt has been bought. Last but not least, you can't forget the main stage where the likes of Wes Jeans has been seen jamming.

So the next time you're in the mood for good food, good music and good fellowship, ride on out to ETME Acres. You won't just be having a great time; you'll be helping out a great cause. Hope to see you there!
